67 notebooks dated 1969- 2012. Early notebooks are comprised mostly of handwritten prose and poetry, but often contain ordinary notes. The smaller notebooks kept in later years were carried by W.D. Ehrhart during the work day for notes and reminders. Folder titles indicate the first few words in each notebook.
