Scope and Contents note
This finding aid refers to the contents of the La Salle Univeristy Archives' Record of the Art Museum Collection, UA.01.025, boxes 1 and 2. The scope of this collection features records pertaining to the early history of the La Salle Art Museum from it's founding in 1969 and opening in 1976 through the ealry 1990's.
Information regarding feature exhibits that were displayed by the Art Museum between 1976 and 1982 as well as evening events, concerts, and a record of tours and programs held for various classes of students and community groups are stored in Box 1 of the collection.
The guest books used to record visitation to the Art Museum’s inauguration on Dec. 8th 1969 through March 27th 1992 are included in Box 2 of this collection. These books could be used by researchers to generate a monthly/yearly visitation records that may be useful in the context of the information about feature exhibitions in effort to determine which exhibits had the most visitors.
Articles of correspondence relating to the administration of the La Salle Art Museum is also found in Box 2. The majority of the correspondence if that of Bro. Daniel Burke, the museum's founding patron as well as curator Caroline P. Wistar, who began working with the Art Museum in 1976.
Box 2 also features records of La Salle Art Museum budgetary information. These records include monthly and yearly budget statements as well as invoices, check receipts and donations to the museum.
